The scenic town of Round Top, population 77, is located roughly half way between Houston and Austin. Home to an annual antique festival, the town is also famous among foodies for the Royers Round Top Cafe. Those that remember the all too brief stay of the Royers Round Top Take-Out Market in Austin will nod in anticipation as we pay a visit to the mothership and discover our first Foodquest Destination.

The quiet small town of Round Top is reminescent of bucolic and comforting scenes that evoke a time long since passed. Upon entering the small downtown, one's eyes are immediately drawn to the cafe. With its colorful decorations and unique rustic appeal, Royer's Round Top Cafe appears almost like a set from a movie.
The visitor's eye is immediately drawn toward the eclectic collection that decorate the walls and ceiling of the Cafe. Composed of restaurant menus that speak of decades of culinary adventures around the world by Bud Royer, the numerous antiques and mementos from friends and visitors of the restaurant, and the multitudes of awards and plaques, the experience is somewhat akin to entering a friendly neighbor's abode. You can be sure that good friends, good company and most importantly, good food will soon follow.
While waiting for one's food to be prepared, it is easy to marvel at the multitude of restaurants and countries decorating the walls of the Cafe. Restaurants from the far corners of the world are present as are more familiar locales of Western Europe. Truly, this speaks of the Royers' own Foodquest decades before the advent of the web.
