Page 3: After Dinner Page 3 of 3
Bejing at night is a visual feast of sights and sounds. Everywhere, buildings are illuminated and draw the attention. A walk around the sights of Beijing after dinner is perfect after the fine meal. Along with the tomb of Chairman Mao, Tienamen Square provides an expansive sight to behold. At once sobering and inspiring, one is almost overwhelmed with the history that surrounds.
For the voyage home, we stop by briefly on LanTau Island, Hong Kong. While Hong Kong is technically a part of China, the difference between the mainland and the Island is striking. Despite its reunification with China, Hong Kong still represents a fascinating fusion between the Western and Eastern cultures. The British influence can be seen at every corner. The population is extremely multi-national with expatriates from the United States, Europe and Australia working alongside native Hong Kong citizens. Alas, we are not able to stay long in this fascinating land before our flight, but the small glimpse nonetheless tantalizes and makes us yearn for a return visit.
